Giants 14 Patriots 35
I would like to give the Giants a legit hand clap for the effort they put up against the Patriots this week with no Barkley, Engram and Shepherd. Unfortunately for them, they ran out of gas and the talent on the Patriots rose to the top. Danny Dimes was out there throwing pennies this week with his three interceptions against this elite defense. Bill Belichick has a reputation of beating up on rookie quarterbacks and Thursday was no different.
With all that being said, i would give him props for trying hard and he did make some good throws throughout the game with limited resources. Golden Tate showed that he still got it when he caught a deep pass on one of Danny’s Dimes for a 64 yard touchdown. With a line of 6 catches for 102 yards, Tate can be a good flex play weekly due to Sterling Shephard’s concussion issues during his career. I know Darius Slayton didn’t have a good game this week but I would keep an eye on him this year. He was targeted 8 times this week but due to this elite defense this week he was not able to capitalize on this opportunity. He has the talent to break out on this young offense and he seems to have a report with Danny as well.
I understand Shurmur was trying to establish the run this week but Jonathon Hilliman was so bad Thursday, he got cut on Friday. Every run looked like he was running into a mosh pit and the mosh pit won on all 11 carries. It was pretty sad to watch. I think they wouldn't have cut him if they thought Barkley wasn't ready. As a fantasy owner of Barkley, if he is healthy, he has to play even if he isn't 100%.
Next week the Giants have the Arizona Cardinals so that is a good matchup for the offense all around. Danny, Saquon, Shephard, and Tate. Engram will be my TE start of the week due to the fact that The Cardinals refuse to cover the position week after week.
Man do I feel bad for the resident Sony Michel owners after this week. He legit would have had 3 TD’s this week if they weren't vultured by Brandon Bolden and Tom Brady. That’s one reason why I never draft from that backfield. Bill Belichick is in love with QB sneaks with Brady so much that he tried from the three yard line. Pretty crazy when you have a running back that you drafted in the first round, and you don't use him in red zone spots where he is actually good at.
What do I know though? BB is the best HC of all time. I think he knows what he is doing. In the first half Tom Brady really struggled against this subpar defense and it looked quite alarming. He threw an interception and was hit with a strip sack due to terrible blocking by his TE Izzo. After he settled in, he went to old reliable. Julian Edelman balled out for his old friend for 9 catches and 113 yards on 15 targets. Josh Gordon’s injury really put a strangle on the receiving corps but some guys were able to step up to the plate and produce.
One of those guys was Jakobi Meyers. He made some tough catches when Brady needed him the most. If Gordon is out for some time, Jakobi can be a solid flex play if you are fighting your bye weeks. The real MVP of this game was the Patriots DST. They have been dominating the league as well fantasy leagues. There are not many matchup proof Defenses in fantasy but we got one here.
Next week the Patriots have the Jets on the slate and this one is an obvious answer for all Pats owners. You have to play Brady, Sony, White, Edelman and if Gordon is out Meyers is a good play against an inferior defense.
